What are the health benefits of mushrooms

Mushrooms are a good source of fibre, protein and antioxidants. They are a great addition to a vegetarian or vegan diet if you are search for substitution foods in recipes - this is how I started eating mushrooms to begin with. Likewise, they go great on top of meats. For those in either camps - fungi are not an animal, fruit or vegetable so they function as tasty common ground nestled in the Fungi Kingdom.

How do you grow it? Is it organic?

Our mushrooms are organic but we aren't certified organic. We're a small family business and the process can be costly so we have not done it. If you care, please read below because we believe we are clear and our product is safe. Ingredient explanations are below (in reverse order of our process) so you can make your own judgement. Please note, we may at time buy external Grain Spawn or Grow Bags should we have the need to vary our grow in order to meet customer demands.

The ingredients on our grow bags:

Mycelium via Grain Spawn. Mycelium is to mushrooms what an apple tree is to an apple. Grain Spawn step below

Hardwood fuel pellets. Supplied by Recycling Technologies Group. Hardwood is pelletised where vegetable oil is added for binding - this is preferrable over inedible oils which are often used. Generally pellets are made from sawdust which is a waste product of mills.

Soy Hull Pellets. We use "Hyfibre" from the "Hyfeed" brand. This is created from Australia soy which is GMO Free. This brand is used as horse feed. If its good enough for those majestic creatures, its good enough for our fungi. Soy Hulls are a waste product of Soy Beans (the hulls of them!).

Water. Each grow bag is 60% water.

Nothing else.

The ingredients on our Grain Spawn:

Mycelium via Liquid Culture. Mycelium is to mushrooms what an orange tree is to an orange. Liquid Culture step below

Whole Oats. We use "Grenfell" Whole Oats.

Water. The grains are soaked overnight in water to hydrate the grain.

Nothing else.

The ingredients on our Liquid Culture:

Mycelium via Liquid Culture. Mycelium is to mushrooms what a pear tree is to a pear. We buy our mycelium as Liquid Culture (LC) and expand it in the LC indefinitely (so far).

Light Dry Malt. Any sugar works. We use Coopers Light Dry Malt. Added to water. 4% by weight.

Water.

Nothing else.
